Steven Alan Childress teaches Tulane University's online class in Louisiana Notary Law and is the Conrad Meyer III Professor of Law at Tulane. He is also a practicing notary public with statewide jurisdiction. He earned a JD from Harvard Law School, a PhD in Jurisprudence from Berkeley, and clerked in Shreveport for the federal court of appeals. After appellate practice in San Francisco, he became a law professor in 1988, teaching evidence and personal injury law in New Orleans and Washington, D.C. He authored the appellate treatise Federal Standards of Review (5th ed. 2024) and, in 2020, published a best-selling guide to the Louisiana Notary Exam, the Sidepiece. Alan is an attorney licensed by the California and D.C. bars and a member of the Louisiana Notary Association.
Michele Childress has been an active member of the Louisiana State Bar since 2002, when she also received her notarial commission with statewide jurisdiction. She is a graduate of Loyola Law School with her college degree also from Loyola University. While operating a notary and legal service in Elmwood, Louisiana, she has performed thousands of notarial acts covering a wide range of subjects and formats. She has also edited books ranging from law school study guides and constitutional law to classic sociology texts. In 2022, she authored a simplified summary of the lengthy and complex state study guide, the Outline; and in 2024 she cowrote with Alan a book of 170+ notary forms, that can also be downloaded from this website.
Once you've ordered the state's official study guide, called Fundamentals of Louisiana Notarial Law and Practice, you'll need help deciphering it, annotating it, understanding the big picture, and maximizing your chance to pass the difficult notary exam. Our affordable resources and remote-live instruction are there with a helping hand. See all our seminars or register. Our books are here and easily searched on Amazon. Alan & Michele are experienced in explaining complex legal concepts and jargon while others try to "sound like a lawyer" to impress you.
